Temple Grandin Class is a specialist ASD provision supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Our class is designed to meet the individual needs of children with autism through a highly structured, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Learning is carefully adapted to each child and focuses on communication, emotional regulation, independence, and engagement. Teaching is supported through clear routines, visual supports, and practical, hands-on experiences to help pupils feel confident and secure in their learning.
Alongside academic learning, we place strong emphasis on personal development. Pupils are supported to develop language and communication skills, build positive relationships, and grow in confidence. Where appropriate, children are supported to access mainstream lessons and shared school activities, promoting inclusion and a strong sense of belonging within the wider school community.
PE Kits
Temple Grandin Class have PE on Tuesdays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kits on this day and do not need to change back into uniform.
The class also takes part in swimming on Thursdays. Further information about swimming arrangements will be shared directly with parents and carers.
Water Bottles
Water bottles are not required, however children are welcome to bring a clearly labelled water bottle if they prefer. Drinking cups and water are available in the classroom for all pupils.
Home Learning
Home Learning will be sent home on Fridays and will include:
-
one Maths task
-
one English task
-
two optional activities linked to the week’s learning
Tasks are adapted to suit individual needs and are designed to reinforce learning in a supportive and manageable way.
Reading
Reading materials are sent home on Fridays and are matched to each child’s individual learning needs. Some pupils may bring home a reading book linked to a phonics programme, while others may receive alternative reading materials appropriate to their stage of development.
Books are intended to be shared and enjoyed at home and will have been read and supported in school before being sent home.
