YEAR 1 WEEKLY REVIEW

Weekly Review –

This week we celebrated World Book Day! It was lovely to see everyone’s amazing costumes as well as the enthusiasm to talk about different books. We also enjoyed continuing our work on Explorers this week, we learned about Ibn Battuta, a Moroccan explorer from the 1300s. We also loved investigating algorithms in computing this week. An algorithm is a step by step instruction used to complete a goal. We have been writing algorithms on Purple Mash to get our characters to complete different mazes.

English –

In Writing this week, we continued Grandad’s Camper by Harry Woodgate. We used verbs to tell the story of what exciting adventures our character gets up to when visiting her Grandad. We also described the fantastic city scenery that the camper van passes through.

Maths –

This week in maths, we explored how adding or subtracting zero from a number leaves it unchanged, helping us understand the special role of zero in calculations. We also focused on doubling numbers, looking at how pairs of the same number add together. Through hands-on activities and practice, we strengthened our number sense and built confidence in recognizing doubles quickly.

PATHS -

This week in PATHS, we learned about the emotions of worry and disappointment, recognizing that these can be uncomfortable feelings. We read Tamara Feels Worried, which helped us understand how to manage worry and find ways to feel better. As a class, we discussed different situations that might make us feel these emotions and shared possible solutions to help us move forward.

Phonics-

This week's sounds are: /ur/ or word, /oo/ u awful, oul could, /air/ are share, /or/ author dinosaur floor walk. This week's tricky words are: once, laugh, oh, their, our.
