Weekly Review – What a week of discovery!

We have had a wonderful start to Summer 2 this week! In Design Technology, we explored a variety of fruits as we begin our exciting new unit on smoothies. In History, we learned all about the first ever flight by the Wright brothers and the incredible impact it had on travel. We’ve also continued belting our hearts out in Music as we rehearse for our end of year show – we can’t wait to share it with you!

English – In Writing this week, we began our exciting new text Rosie Revere, Engineer. We discovered that an engineer is someone who creates new things to solve problems, which inspired us to design our own amazing inventions—like a robot sweet dispenser and a time machine to take us back to the age of the dinosaurs! We also tackled some tricky vocabulary to help us understand all the technical 'engineer' language in the story. As we read, we enjoyed tracking the emotions of the characters and reflected on Rosie's incredible resilience. We’ve really loved diving into this inspiring new book!

Maths – In Maths this week, we focused on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and how this helps us count larger numbers more efficiently. We solved problems like, “If I say the number 45, what might I be counting in?” which got us thinking carefully about patterns in numbers. This understanding gave us the confidence to move on to our next topic—money! We explored pennies, talked about what money can be used for, and even opened up our very own class shops to put our learning into practice.

Phonics:This week we are continuing to review our phase 5 sounds in preparation for phonics screening. This week's sounds have been: i /igh/, a /ai/, ow /oa/, u /yoo/. Our tricky words this week are: two, eye, thought, through, friend.

Returning your book – Please return these books inside your child’s reading folder every Monday. If the book is not returned, you will receive one reminder before a £5 fine is issued.

Writing

Can you draw a picture of an invention you’ve designed? Give your invention a name and label the different parts. Think about what your invention can do and what problem it might solve. Be as creative as you like – maybe it helps people fly, cleans up toys, or makes snacks for you.

Maths

Can you complete the worksheet using your counting techniques!

Do you need to count in 2s, 5s or 10s?
