Year 5 Weekly Review
Summer 1 week 3: 5th May - 9th 2025
Weekly Review
This week has zoomed by! With many highlights throughout the week, Sports Day has to be a key one. It was incredible to see the children’s competitive side mixed with the values and respect they have been practising in class. In RE we continued looking at charity, giving and identifying charities we know and summarising our learning and understanding of a chosen charity to research, on posters and presenting them to the class. Science had us investigating Earth’s different seasons and how the tilt of the Earth provides the northern and southern hemispheres with opposite timings for these.
English:
In English this week, we wrote our own newspaper articles to inform audiences about Salim going missing on the London Eye! We used grammatical devices specific to article writing such as formal and informal language, headings, subheadings, slogans and direct speech to demonstrate interviews. The children had a lot of fun writing their own newspaper.
Maths:
Our third week of maths continued work on equivalent fractions and looking and using the vertical and horizontal relationships between numerators and denominators to find equivalent fractions. Next week we will start our next unit on linking fractions, decimals & percentages.
PATHs:
This week in PATHS we looked at authority and authority figures we know and how these people care for us by setting boundaries. We also looked at the complex decision making authority figures have to make using scenarios and role play to practise empathy and understanding for the challenges authority figures face.
Key vocabulary
Equivalent fractions, horizontal and vertical, northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, equator, axis, crux
