Year 5 Weekly Review
Weekly Review - Autumn 2, Week 2: 11th - 15th November 2024
It’s been a fantastic week in Year 5 at Ravenstone. We started the week by commemorating those who lost their lives in and because of war by taking part in a one minute silence in the playground. As part of the day, Year 5 made origami poppies. On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have a dog safety workshop, where they delivered a lesson on reading the signals of dogs to keep them and us safe. Excitingly, we have also started to design our own stuffed toy, which we will be making throughout this half-term in DT.
English: This week in English we continued reading our new class text, written by Louis Sachar, There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom. We used our learning from last week on exploring the characters and practising adverbials, rhetorical questions and parentheses to create a modelled write of a persuasive letter. Next week, we will be writing a persuasive letter independently, using the past two weeks of learning and knowledge of the book to help us.
Maths: This week in Maths we started a new unit of work which focuses on multiplication. We have learnt different ways to multiply 2-digit and 1-digit numbers, through partitioning, expanded multiplication and short multiplication. This is a crucial area of learning for this year in Maths.
PSHE (PATHs): In PATHs this week, we worked in small groups to identify the Golden Rule of “Treat others how you want to be treated”. We used this rule and applied it to different scenarios to come up with solutions of how to solve them.
