Year 5 Weekly Review
Spring 2 Week 4: 24th - 28th March 2025
Weekly Review
That is the end of Spring term and it feels like it has gone by in a flash! 5G had their trip to the incredible Apple offices and store in Battersea Power station. We finished constructing and critiqued our spaghetti bridges which has required so much teamwork, determination and understanding. We started our new Science topic on space and the enthusiasm was oozing around the classrooms because we are so excited to explore our own solar system! We started off the unit with identifying the key bodies that orbit in our solar system and developed our own wacky mnemonics to help us remember them. A personal favourite of the class teachers was ‘My Very Edible Mango Just Saw Us Nibble’.
English:
This week in English the children planned and wrote their own diary entries as Tucky! They recounted the events of finding the stranded Germans in the moors and how they helped them survive from the crash. They used complex and compound sentences, fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases to include rich description and varied sentence styles. It has been a joy to read them and the children have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book together.
Maths:
In Maths this week we continued our key learning with fractions, converting improper fractions into mixed number fractions and multiplying mixed number fractions by whole numbers (integers). The children have really enjoyed practising this skill!
PATHs:
This week in PATHS, we focused on being rejected and excluded. This was an extremely topical lesson which focused on helping our children better understand how their feelings are affected by their perception of social interactions and opinions of others. We discussed these two concepts and began to introduce the concept of discrimination which we will talk about after Easter!
