Weekly Review – What a week of discovery!

Weekly Review
Another week full of exciting learning! In DT, we developed our cutting skills using child-safe knives, learning how to handle tools with care and confidence. Thank you for all the kind donations of different fruits, we were really challenged with the blueberries! In Music, rehearsals for the Year 6 show are in full swing and we continued to build our performance with enthusiastic singing and energetic dance moves. Meanwhile, in Science, we dug deeper into our plants topic by identifying the different parts of a plant that grow above the ground and thinking about their important jobs. In History, we explored the exciting world of Victorian engineering as we sequenced the key events of the Rainhill Trials - discovering how the race to find the fastest locomotive helped shape the future of transport.

English -  In English this week, we focused on using question marks and exclamation marks correctly in our writing. We linked our grammar work to our class text and imagined what kind of questions we might ask if we were designing a secret sky garden. From "Is there any wildlife?" to “Would you have a beanstalk slide?” - our imaginations ran wild! These ideas helped us prepare for our own sky garden designs later in the week.

Maths  - In Maths, we have been working through informal assessments to reflect on everything we've learned over this term. We’ve been revisiting key topics and applying our knowledge with growing independence. Well done Year 1!

Phonics: This week we have learnt so many new sounds!

This week's sounds were: /sh/ ti, /j/ dge and ge, /i/ y.  Our tricky words this week are: busy, beautiful, pretty, hour.

Writing:

Can you design and draw your own ‘Secret Sky Garden’? Don’t forget to label the features and, for a challenge, write some sentences describing your garden.

Maths

We have been working on how quickly we can use our number facts (not our fingers!) to answer questions. There are 3 sets of questions below, can you time yourself answering each of them and improve your pace?

Optional task:

DT - Can you continue to practise your chopping skills? Pick a few different objects and cut them into different shapes!

Information and Key Dates:

This week is the last week you will receive a reading book.
